Use our aerial yoga & aerial dance equipment

Product description

This is our most popular aerial dance and aerial yoga fabric! The fabric is a 40 denier nylon tricot. It is approx. 102 to 108 inches wide. It is a minimal to no stretch fabric lengthwise, which means it does not stretch when you climb it, or as you sit in it as a hammock. Fabric stretch can be subjective. Please watch our video here showing the various levels of stretch between all our fabric options here. Our nylon fabric tends to be less "slippery" feeling than polyester fabrics. Our aerial yoga and dance fabric is durable, strong, soft, and easy to clean.

The aerial fabric is regularly break tested with a single strand breaking around 2,500 pounds. Certificate of strength available upon request. AFA uses a safety factor (also called a design factor) of 6 to 1 for aerial fabric. Based on the minimum breaking strength from destructive testing of a single strand of fabric, we recommend a working load limit of 416 pounds.

Please note:

  • The color photographed is approximate and can vary depending on your computer monitor, different types of lighting and vision.
  • If left in direct sunlight all colors will fade and the breaking strength may be impacted. We do not recommend leaving your fabric outside for long periods of time!
  • You will notice adhesive dots that run down the length of the edge of the fabric. These are put on the fabric during manufacturing to keep the edges from curling. It is not a defect and they do come out with washing.

Our customers love our fabric for their Yoga studios around the world or in their homes. They love their Yoga Hammocks for Back Pain, Stretching, and Stress Relief. It feels great and helps them enjoy their experience doing Yoga or Aerial Dance. Our fabric is the best on the market for Aerial Yoga Hammocks and Aerial Dance and is made in the USA.

We want to help you as much as possible BEFORE you place your order since all orders are custom with no returns or refunds. If you have questions, please contact us.

How to Care for Your Aerial Fabric

We recommend only washing your aerial silks when necessary. Frequent washing can degrade the fabric more quickly over time. Follow these tips when washing your aerial fabric.

  • Do not use a top-loading washing machine with an agitator. It can snag the fabric. If a top load is your only option you can put the aerial fabric in a large mesh laundry bag and then put the whole thing in the washer. This will help protect from snags.
  • Always use a gentle wash cycle.
  • Fabric should be washed at a low temperature or cold only (not hot).
  • Use a gentle detergent.
  • Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or vinegar.
  • It is recommended to line dry only. Using a dryer can damage the fabric due to heat exposure.
  • Wash only 1 piece of fabric at a time.

How much Aerial Silk do I need?

To determine the amount of fabric needed for your aerial silks setup or aerial yoga hammock, follow these instructions.

Aerial Silks Setup:

  • Measure the Rigging Height: Begin by measuring the height from the ground to the rigging point. For high ceilings, we recommend using a laser measure for precision.
  • Calculate Fabric Length: Multiply this height by 2 to account for both “sides” of the silk.
  • Add Tail Length: Decide how much “tail” you want pooling on the ground. Typically, 3 feet is a common choice, but this can vary depending on your skills and preferences. Remember to multiply this tail length by 2 to account for both sides of the silk!
  • Include Rig Tie Length: Add 1 foot to account for the rigging tie, such as the tie to a rescue 8 or fabric bell.
  • Convert to Yards: If your measurements are in feet, convert the total to yards by dividing by 3, as our fabric is sold in yards. If your calculation falls between yards, it’s best to round up.

Aerial Yoga Hammock Setup:

  • Measure the Rigging Height: Begin by measuring the height from the ground to the rigging point. For high ceilings, we recommend using a laser measure for precision.
  • Account for Hammock Height: Determine how high you want the hammock to be off the ground, typically for aerial yoga around hip height (about 3 feet). Subtract this height from the ceiling height. For example, if your ceiling is 12 feet high and you want the hammock 3 feet off the ground, your working height will be 9 feet.
  • Calculate Fabric Length: Multiply this working height by 2 to account for both “sides” of the hammock.
  • Add Rig Tie Length: Depending on your rigging method, add the appropriate fabric length. If you are rigging with runners or multiple links, add 1.5 feet per side (3 feet total). If you are rigging with a rescue 8 setup, add an additional 9 feet of fabric, as this tie requires more material.

Low Stretch Aerial Fabric

Our low-stretch fabric is made from durable nylon tricot, offering minimal stretch and a silk-like softness. This makes it an excellent choice for aerial yoga and beginner to intermediate aerial dance. Keep in mind, stretch is subjective! Watch our stretch comparison video to discover the perfect fabric for your needs.

US Manufactured and Tested!

All of our fabric is regularly break tested at independent facilities so you can have peace of mind! A single strand of our low-stretch tricot consistently breaks at approximately 2,500 pounds of force (minimum breaking strength).

AFA uses a safety factor of 6:1 for aerial fabric. Based on the minimum breaking strength from destructive testing, we recommend a working load limit of 416 pounds. Confused about these numbers? We’d love to share our knowledge!
